The FIFA Women’s World Cup Finals shattered television audience ratings for a soccer game-men’s or women’s, shown on English-language television in the United States.  A strong American team to root for, a rematch of the 2011 Women’s World Cup finalists, and weeks of buildup for the American team on Fox and Fox Sports 1 all accounted for the incredible viewership of Sunday night’s match-not to mention it was Fourth of July Weekend! Here are a few of the astounding viewership records:

  1. The game had over 20 million viewers, making it the most-watched soccer game ever in the United States

  1. More Americans watched Sunday’s match than the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, and last year’s Men’s World Cup Championship

  1. Viewership was up 89% from the World Cup Final in 2011

  1. There were nearly 1.3 million viewers on Telemundo, the Spanish Language Channel

Overall, the match generated an incredible amount of buzz around the Women’s National Team and many of its players. It was certainly an epic close to a very patriotic weekend and we couldn’t be more excited for our country! Congratulations Team USA!!!
