A lot has happened since the first Super Bowl broadcast in 1967. Goodyear sent an iconic blimp on its maiden voyage, McDonald’s sang the recipe to their flagship burger, Coke taught us that Mean Joe Greene really wasn’t all that mean, and Budweiser introduced us to majestic clydesdales, talking bullfrogs, and all sorts of other original party animals. Needless to say, the Super Bowl is advertising’s pinnacle moment, capturing worldwide attention and creating lasting influence. So much so that mere television spots have gained fame (or infamy) that often trump the year’s champions.

To celebrate advertising’s big day, Adweek put together a 50 year timeline showcasing the biggest moments outside the big game. Check it out below and share some of your favorite Super Bowl moments on Facebook & Twitter.
